Richard E. Braun, Jr. (“Richy”) is the District Attorney of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit. In September 2026, Governor Brian P. Kemp appointed him to the office, and he was sworn in at the Georgia State Capitol.

A lifelong resident of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit and a seventh-generation Liberty Countian, Richard graduated from Bradwell Institute as a Georgia Scholar and National Merit Finalist. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration, magna cum laude, from Georgia Southern University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi in 1999.

Shortly after law school, Richard began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit. In 2002, he entered private practice, first forming Braun & Braun LLP and later joining Jones, Osteen & Jones after his law partner became a full-time State Court Judge. He maintained a general trial practice while representing financial institutions and local governments throughout the region.

Richard was elected Solicitor-General of McIntosh County in November 2002 and re-elected six times. He later served as City Manager of Darien and returned to prosecution in 2025 as Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney for Glynn County. He resigned from both prosecutorial positions when he was appointed District Attorney in 2026.
